About Us

A place to explore. A place to learn. A place to create.

We opened our doors at the start of the Fall 2018 semester. We wanted to create a space where students could experiment with different kinds of technology that they may not otherwise have access to such as a 3D scanner, 3D printer, Google AIY Kits, Amazon Echo, virtual reality goggles, littleBits electronic building blocks (to name a few), and then let their imagination take off from there!

It’s not only about the fun gadgets and toys, we invite students to learn new skills, brush up on current skills, and really engage with technology in all ways. Maybe learn how to code a simple video game using Scratch or learn the fundamentals about electronics using the littleBits starter kit, build a smart mirror using the Raspberry Pi, or use Java to program a small robot to bring you coffee (no pun intended), the possibilities are endless!

Our Makerspace is a space where students can dream big, make stuff, play, create, design and have fun without worrying about making mistakes or failing.  We hope that our maker community environment will instill confidence in students and possibly inspire the next generation of technological innovators. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started out in a garage, we have the Macomb Makerspace!

Have an idea for a business venture or product? The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) is right down the hall from us and it’s a free community resource! The vision of the CIE is to develop a culture of entrepreneurship in which students and residents are inspired and motivated to explore and act upon their innovative ideas. Bring your innovative ideas from the Makerspace to the CIE and talk to one of their experienced mentors, it may lead to something amazing! Please join us or just stop by and visit the Makerspace! Growing our makerspace community invites the diversification of ideas and people, as well as the density of ideas, which are integral to innovation and are part of the foundational principles that should be present within a makerspace community and environment. Let’s build, create, innovate, explore, and learn together!

Think. Create. Repeat.
